A Vision for a Ministry Hub in Forest Lake
Although Forest Lake is the largest suburb in Brisbane with a population of 22,676, sadly, it does not have a church building within its boundaries. This is particularly sad considering that the discussions we’ve had with community leaders—including local government representatives, school principals, and the police—have all shared a growing need for more community spaces. With the rapid expansion of surrounding suburbs, this need will only continue to grow.
In light of these things, we believe that God is leading our church towards a vision of building a Ministry Hub—a place dedicated to serving the whole community, not just running church programs. This will not be a traditional church building, but a welcoming, accessible space for people of all backgrounds and needs. It will be a place where community groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Weight Watchers, Men’s Shed, and others can find a home, where practical, emotional, and spiritual support is available for all who seek it.
The word ministry comes from the Latin ministerium, meaning “service”—the same root as minestrone, a nourishing soup once prepared by monks for travellers. Inspired by this, we want the Ministry Hub to be a place of refreshment, support, and care for the whole person—spirit, mind, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
While the property may develop over time to include a place of Sunday worship, our first priority is establishing a vibrant space that serves Forest Lake and its surrounding communities Monday through Saturday.
